This Privacy Policy explains how BabyU (“BabyU,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you visit babyu.net, contact us, or interact with site features. It also explains how cookies and advertising technologies may be used and the choices available to you.

1. Who we are and who this site is for

BabyU is an independent editorial website that publishes practical play ideas and general educational information for parents, caregivers, and early-years professionals. The site is intended for adults. It is not designed for or directed to children.

BabyU is the controller of information submitted directly through this website, such as information sent in an email or comment. Service providers may separately process technical information under their own privacy terms when they provide hosting, security, fonts, advertising, or other site services.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide

We may receive information that you voluntarily provide when you:

email us or use a contact method listed on the site;
submit a correction, question, suggestion, or other message;
leave a comment, if comments are enabled; or
otherwise communicate with BabyU.

This information may include your name, email address, website address, message, and any files or details you choose to send. Please do not send sensitive personal information or unnecessary information about a child.

Information collected automatically

When your browser requests a BabyU page, the website’s hosting, content-delivery, and security systems may automatically receive technical information such as:

IP address and approximate location derived from it;
browser, operating system, language, and device type;
requested page, referring page, date, time, and server response;
diagnostic, security, and error information; and
interactions with cookies or similar technologies when those tools are active.

We use this information to deliver pages, maintain security, prevent abuse, diagnose problems, understand technical performance, and comply with legal obligations.

3. Comments and Gravatar

If you leave a comment, WordPress may collect the information shown in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser user-agent string, to help with moderation and spam detection. If you select the option to remember your details, WordPress may store your name, email address, and website in cookies for your convenience.

An anonymized value created from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to determine whether you have a profile image. After a comment is approved, that image may be visible publicly beside the comment. Learn more in the Automattic Privacy Policy.

Do not include private information, information about a child, or anything you do not want displayed publicly in a comment. We may moderate, refuse, or remove comments as described in our Terms of Use.

4. Cookie notice

Cookies are small text files stored by a browser. Similar technologies can include local storage, pixels, tags, and identifiers. They may be used to operate a website, remember a choice, protect against abuse, measure performance, or support advertising.

Current site notice: as of the effective date above, public BabyU pages do not load Google Analytics or Google AdSense advertising tags. BabyU may add advertising or measurement services later. If non-essential technologies are enabled, this policy will be updated and, where required, an appropriate consent or privacy-choice message will be shown.

Types of cookies and similar technologies that may apply

You can delete stored cookies, block third-party cookies, or change cookie permissions in your browser. Browser interfaces change over time, so use the current instructions from the browser provider:

Deleting browser cookies does not automatically delete information already retained by a service provider or information you submitted directly to BabyU. Contact us if you want to make a privacy request.

5. Google services

Google Fonts

BabyU currently uses font files delivered through Google Fonts. When your browser requests those files, Google may receive technical request information such as your IP address, browser details, and the requested font resource. Google handles that information under its own privacy terms. You can read the Google Privacy Policy.

Google AdSense and advertising

BabyU may use Google AdSense to display advertising. When advertising is enabled, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on a visitor’s prior visits to BabyU or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this site and other sites on the internet.

Advertising technologies may process IP addresses, device and browser information, ad impressions, interactions, approximate location, and identifiers for purposes such as ad delivery, fraud prevention, frequency control, reporting, and—where permitted and consented to—ad personalization.

You can:

review controls for ads shown on partner sites through Google’s partner ads settings;

opt out of some participating companies’ interest-based advertising through WebChoices.

If third-party advertising vendors or networks other than Google serve ads on BabyU, information about the active vendors and their controls will be made available through the applicable consent interface or provider list.

Consent for advertising

Where consent is required, BabyU will use an appropriate consent management platform before accessing or storing non-essential advertising information on a visitor’s device. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland must be offered the disclosures and choices required for Google publisher products. A consent choice should be changeable later through a visible privacy-options or consent-revocation control when advertising is active.

6. Embedded content and external links

Articles may link to or embed content from another website. Embedded content can behave as if you visited the originating website directly. That provider may collect information, set cookies, or measure your interaction according to its own policy. External links are provided for reference; BabyU does not control the privacy, security, availability, or content of third-party websites.

7. How we use information

We may use information to:

operate, maintain, secure, and improve the website;
deliver requested pages and remember user choices;
respond to messages, questions, privacy requests, or correction notices;
moderate comments and prevent spam, fraud, or misuse;
investigate technical problems and monitor site performance;
maintain editorial and administrative records;
display and measure advertising when that service is enabled; and
comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect rights and safety.

Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, processing may be based on consent, performance of a requested service, legitimate interests in operating and securing the website, or compliance with a legal obligation.

8. When information may be shared

We may disclose information to service providers that help with hosting, content delivery, security, email, comment processing, spam detection, fonts, consent management, analytics, or advertising. These providers process information for their assigned role and under their own contractual and legal obligations.

Information may also be disclosed:

when reasonably necessary to comply with law or a valid legal process;
to investigate abuse, fraud, security incidents, or violations of our terms;
to protect the rights, property, or safety of BabyU, users, or others; or
in connection with a merger, sale, reorganization, or transfer of the website, subject to appropriate safeguards.

BabyU does not sell personal information submitted through direct contact for money. Advertising-related disclosures may be treated as a “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising under some privacy laws even when no money is exchanged. Where such laws apply, the relevant opt-out or consent choices will be provided.

9. Data retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose described in this policy, including to maintain security, respond to a request, preserve an editorial or legal record, resolve a dispute, and meet legal obligations.

Contact messages may be kept while a request is active and for a reasonable recordkeeping period afterward.
Approved comments and their metadata may remain until the comment is removed so that the conversation and follow-up moderation can be managed.
Server, security, and backup data follow the operational schedules of the relevant providers.
Consent records may be retained as needed to remember and demonstrate a privacy choice.

Information may remain temporarily in backups after deletion from active systems. It will be removed or overwritten according to the applicable backup cycle, unless law requires longer retention.

10. Your privacy choices and rights

Depending on your location and the law that applies, you may have the right to:

ask whether we process personal information about you;
request access to or a copy of that information;
request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
request deletion, subject to lawful exceptions;
restrict or object to certain processing;
request portability where applicable;
withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing;
opt out of certain targeted advertising, sale, or sharing where applicable; and
complain to the data-protection authority responsible for your location.

To make a request, email contact@babyu.net with the subject “Privacy request.” Describe the request and the BabyU interaction involved. We may ask for information reasonably needed to confirm your identity and protect your information. Authorized agents may be required to provide evidence of their authority.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right. Some requests may be limited or denied when an exception applies, such as protecting another person’s rights, detecting fraud, maintaining security, or complying with law. We will explain the applicable reason when required.

11. Children’s privacy

BabyU is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly ask children to provide personal information. Parents and caregivers should not post a child’s full name, contact details, health information, photograph, precise location, or other identifying information in comments or messages unless it is strictly necessary and appropriate.

If you believe a child has submitted personal information to BabyU, email contact@babyu.net so we can review the situation and take appropriate action.

12. Security and international processing

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect the site and the information under our control. No website, transmission, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. Please use care when deciding what to send online.

BabyU and its providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Privacy laws and government-access rules may differ. Where required, providers are expected to use an appropriate legal mechanism or safeguard for international transfers.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the website, its providers, or applicable requirements change. The “Last updated” date identifies the latest revision. Material changes may also be highlighted on the site or through an appropriate notice.
